How we actually score a mobile game
Scores are the most misread thing on any review site, so here's how ours work. A number on GlyphBox is shorthand for a paragraph we could write about the game, not a mathematical verdict.
We start every game at a mental baseline and adjust from there. Does it control well under the thumb? Does it respect your time? Does it do at least one thing better than its rivals? A game can be rough in places and still score high if that one thing is special.
We never round up to be kind. If a game frustrates us, that goes in the review and it shows in the number. Readers trust a site that gives out low scores more than one that hands out fours to everything.
So when you see a 4.2, read the words next to it. The number tells you roughly how we feel; the review tells you why.
